About RMAF Butterworth Air Base
RMAF Butterworth Air Base is a Royal Malaysian Air Force station serving Butterworth and the northern Penang region. Opened in 1941 as a British RAF station, the base was later operated by the Royal Australian Air Force and is now the headquarters of the Five Power Defence Arrangements Integrated Area Defence System for Malaysia and Singapore.
The airfield is situated in Seberang Perai, about 8 km from Butterworth town and directly across the Penang Strait from George Town on Penang Island.
