Tioman Airport (TOD)

Tioman Airport is the only airport serving Tioman Island (Pulau Tioman), a popular diving and beach destination in Pahang, off Malaysia’s east coast. Located at Kampung Tekek, the island’s main village, it is a small airfield built for short take-off and landing aircraft.

The airport has a single compact terminal and one short asphalt runway, handling domestic and limited charter flights. It was developed in the second half of the 20th century to support island tourism, and for years hosted scheduled Berjaya Air Dash 7 services from Subang and Singapore Seletar, though scheduled operations have since become limited.

Because it sits within walking distance of Tekek’s jetty, shops and beaches, onward travel is simple: walk, take a 4x4 taxi, use a water taxi to other villages such as Salang, Air Batang and Genting, or arrange a resort transfer. There is no rail link, and ferries from Mersing and Tanjung Gemok remain the main mainland connection when flights are unavailable.

Facilities at the terminal are minimal but sufficient for short island operations, with a small café or kiosk, basic seating and restrooms. The airport’s short runway and scenic coastal approach make it a distinctive, weather-dependent gateway to Tioman Island.
