About Rio Branco–Plácido de Castro International Airport
Rio Branco–Plácido de Castro International Airport is the main airport serving Rio Branco and the state of Acre in Brazil's far western Amazon region. Opened on 22 November 1999, it replaced the former Presidente Médici International Airport and was later named in honour of José Plácido de Castro, a key figure in Acre's history.
Located about 18 km northwest of central Rio Branco, the airport serves domestic, international, general and military aviation and functions as the main airfield in Acre. Its single passenger terminal handles both domestic and international operations and has been expanded and modernised to improve comfort and efficiency.
The airport is reached mainly by road, with access near the BR-364 highway, and onward travel is available by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service and car rental. The journey to the city centre is relatively short by car.
Managed by VINCI Airports since January 2022 under a long-term concession, the airport has benefited from improvements to its runway, sanitary facilities and boarding areas, making it a practical entry point for visitors travelling to Rio Branco and the surrounding Amazon region.
