About Retalhuleu Airport
Retalhuleu Airport is the main airport serving the city of Retalhuleu and the surrounding department in southern Guatemala. Known in Spanish as Base Aérea del Sur, the site operates as a joint civil and military facility with a single asphalt runway in direction 04/22.
Located about 3 km from central Retalhuleu, the airport mainly supports domestic flights and provides a convenient entry point for the city and the wider Pacific region. Its compact terminal keeps arrivals, check-in and departures within a single building, and passengers can reach nearby attractions including the IRTRA parks at Xetulul and Xocomil.
Onward travel is straightforward, with taxis, private transfers, rental cars and local road links available from the terminal to the city centre and surrounding areas. Pre-booking transport is often recommended for smoother connections.
