About RAF Akrotiri
RAF Akrotiri is a British Royal Air Force station located on the Akrotiri peninsula in the Western Sovereign Base Area of Cyprus, a short distance from Limassol. Built in the mid-1950s, it remains one of the most important overseas airbases in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
The station operates as a permanent overseas military base and forward mounting base, supporting operations, training and evacuation missions across the region and beyond. Its Air Terminal handles military and civil contracted aircraft serving personnel, families and civilian contractors.
Located about 14 km southwest of Limassol, RAF Akrotiri is reached by road, with onward connections to Limassol, Paphos and other parts of Cyprus by private transfer, taxi, chauffeur or rental car.
A new Passenger and Freight Handling Facility is under construction to replace the 1960s terminal, adding larger check-in, security and arrivals and departures areas as well as a basic aeromedical facility.
