Puerto Barrios Airport (PBR)

Puerto Barrios Airport is the main air gateway to Guatemala's Caribbean coast, serving the city of Puerto Barrios, the port of Santo Tomás de Castilla and the wider Izabal region. The airport was formerly known as Izabal Air Base and reopened to commercial traffic in January 2017, when TAG Airlines began scheduled flights from Guatemala City.

The facility was inaugurated in April 2017 as Aeródromo La Tierra de Dios and operates from a single compact terminal used for domestic regional flights and charter operations. Its concrete runway, designated 12/30, is among the longest in the country, supporting regular passenger flights as well as government and humanitarian missions.

Located about 2 km from central Puerto Barrios, the airport provides a convenient entry point for travellers heading to the Caribbean coast, the Río Dulce area and the Garifuna community of Livingston via the municipal wharf.

Ground transportation is practical and focused on short transfers, with local taxis and tuk-tuks meeting scheduled arrivals. Passenger amenities at the terminal are modest, so many travellers use services in Puerto Barrios city centre before or after their flight. Plans have been announced to upgrade the airport toward international status.
