About President Obiang Nguema International Airport
President Obiang Nguema International Airport is the main airport serving Mongomo, the planned administrative capital of Oyala (Ciudad de la Paz), and the Wele-Nzas region of mainland Equatorial Guinea. The airfield opened on 12 October 2012, and a larger three-floor passenger terminal was inaugurated in October 2019.
The airport has a single 3,000-metre runway that can accommodate wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747-400. Its modern terminal was built to handle around 1.6 million passengers per year and provides check-in, security screening, baggage claim and passenger waiting areas.
Located near the village of Mengomeyén, the airport is approximately 32 km from central Mongomo and is connected to the surrounding area by road. From here, travellers can reach Mongomo, Oyala and other parts of mainland Equatorial Guinea by private transfer, taxi or rental car.
Since January 2019, the airport has been managed with ASECNA support, and CEIBA Intercontinental operates scheduled domestic flights linking the airport with Malabo. With its modern facilities and road connections, the airport serves as a growing gateway for the country's mainland region.
