About Prayagraj Airport
Prayagraj Airport is the main airport serving Prayagraj, the city formerly known as Allahabad, in Uttar Pradesh, India. It holds a notable place in Indian aviation history as the site of the country's first commercial civil aviation flight, and today it functions as a civil enclave within a military air base in the Bamrauli area.
Located approximately 12 km from the city centre, the airport provides domestic connections between Prayagraj and major Indian cities, serving both business travellers and the large number of pilgrims and visitors who come to the region. Its role grows especially important during major religious gatherings such as the Kumbh Mela.
The airport's civil passenger terminal has been expanded and upgraded with additional check-in counters, boarding gates, baggage belts, aerobridges and parking to handle higher passenger volumes and improve the travel experience.
Ground access is available by taxi, app-based cab, auto-rickshaw, private transfer and road links, making it relatively easy to continue from the airport to the city centre and surrounding areas. With modern passenger facilities and onward travel options, the airport serves as a practical gateway to Prayagraj and the wider region.
