About Poços de Caldas Airport
Embaixador Walther Moreira Salles Airport serves Poços de Caldas, a traditional spa city in the state of Minas Gerais near the border with São Paulo. The airport opened in 1937, and its heritage-listed passenger terminal is among the oldest in the region. Since 2022, the facility has been managed by Infraero, Brazil's state-owned airport operator.
Located about 8 km from the city centre, the airport mainly handles general aviation traffic, including executive and private flights, flight instruction, panoramic tours, and aeromedical operations. It is also used as a base for the Minas Gerais Military Police air group. Scheduled commercial airline services do not currently operate at POO.
The airport has a single runway of approximately 1,550 metres and sits at an elevation of around 1,260 metres, making it one of the highest airports of its size in Brazil. Its compact terminal is designed for small and medium aircraft operations rather than large commercial passenger volumes.
Road access links the airport to central Poços de Caldas and the surrounding Serra da Mantiqueira and Circuito das Águas areas. Travelers typically continue their journey by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service, or rental car.
