About Phillip Gaonwe Matante International Airport

Phillip Gaonwe Matante International Airport is the main airport serving Francistown, Botswana's second-largest city, and an important air gateway to northern Botswana. Located about 4 km west of the city centre, it supports domestic travel and regional international connections, including services to Gaborone and Johannesburg.

The current passenger terminal opened in 2011, replacing the older terminal at the eastern end of the airport, which was transferred to the Botswana Defence Force. The compact terminal has separate arrival and departure areas and serves passengers without jet bridges, with boarding via the apron.

The airport is operated under the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana and serves both civilian and military aviation. Its position makes it a practical entry point for business travel to Francistown and for onward journeys to nearby mining towns and tourism areas such as the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans and the Northern Tuli Game Reserve.

Passenger facilities include a restaurant, car rental services, currency exchange and banking, free Wi-Fi and a small retail area, while taxis, private transfers and rental cars provide connections to the city and surrounding region.
