Penang International Airport is the main international airport serving George Town and the island state of Penang. Opened in 1935 as Bayan Lepas International Airport and renamed in 1979, it is one of Malaysia's busiest airports and a key gateway to the country's northwestern region.
Located in Bayan Lepas on the southeastern side of Penang Island, the airport is approximately 16 km south of George Town. It handles domestic and international flights through a single integrated passenger terminal, with regional connections to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok and other Southeast Asian cities, and serves both leisure and business travellers.
