About Oostmalle Airfield
Oostmalle Airfield (OBL, ICAO EBZR) is a small general aviation and gliding airfield in the Antwerp province of Belgium, located in the municipality of Malle and close to the neighbouring town of Zoersel. It serves private, recreational and training flights rather than scheduled passenger services.
The site was built between 1952 and 1955 as one of six NATO reserve airfields in Belgium and long remained a reserve military air base. From 1962 until 2007, the Belgian Air Cadets used the airfield for pilot training, and it continues to host local flying and gliding clubs.
Located roughly 35 km from central Antwerp, the airfield is surrounded by woodland including the Blommerschot forest and is reached mainly by road. There is no public transport connection directly to the airfield, so onward travel is typically by private car or pre-arranged transfer.
Today Oostmalle is focused on recreational aviation, with gliding, light aircraft and club-based training activity, and the surrounding nature area is managed for conservation.
