About Walloon Brabant

Walloon Brabant is a compact, French-speaking province in central Belgium, stretching south from Brussels and forming part of the Wallonia region. Created in 1995 from the split of the former Province of Brabant, it is Belgium's youngest and smallest province, with Wavre as its capital and a landscape that mixes rolling farmland, woodland and small historic towns.

The province is closely tied to the 1815 Battle of Waterloo. Around Waterloo and Braine-l'Alleud, the Waterloo 1815 Memorial, the Panorama and the Lion's Mound mark the battlefield, while the ruins of Villers-la-Ville Abbey and the Collegiate Church of Saint Gertrude in Nivelles reflect centuries of religious and civic heritage.

Wavre, Louvain-la-Neuve and Waterloo anchor local life. Louvain-la-Neuve is a pedestrian university town with the Hergé Museum and Musée L, Wavre is home to the Walibi Belgium theme park, and the green Domaine Solvay at La Hulpe offers parkland walks. Family attractions such as Bois des Rêves and Aventure Parc add outdoor variety.

Walloon Brabant is also a significant business and innovation corridor. Its proximity to Brussels, strong road and rail links, and concentration of life-science, pharmaceutical and technology companies make it a practical base for business travellers, while its countryside, golf courses, cycling routes and local food and beer scene attract leisure visitors throughout the year.
