About O'Neal Airport
O'Neal Airport was a public-use general aviation airport owned by Vincennes University, located in Lawrence County, Illinois, about 2 km west of downtown Vincennes, Indiana. It served as the university's flight-training airfield and a base for light general aviation rather than scheduled commercial airline service.
The airfield had three turf runways, designated 9/27, 14/32 and 3/21, and historically supported the university's aviation program along with a small number of based aircraft. It never handled airline passenger flights.
The airport was abandoned in 2009 and later removed from the Federal Aviation Administration's database, with its Class E airspace revoked effective December 2015. It is no longer operational.
Travelers visiting Vincennes and the surrounding Illinois–Indiana border region now use nearby operational airports, such as Lawrenceville–Vincennes International Airport, with onward road connections into the city.
