Nelspruit Airport is a small airfield serving Mbombela (Nelspruit) and the surrounding Mpumalanga Lowveld. It was the city's original airport and the region's only airport until the opening of Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport in 2002.
Located about 9 km southwest of the city centre, the airport now mainly serves general aviation and private flights. Its single runway is relatively short, and the surrounding topography limits further expansion, so larger commercial flights use Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.
