About Navi Mumbai International Airport
Navi Mumbai International Airport is the second major commercial gateway to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and one of India's newest greenfield airports. Commercial operations began on 25 December 2025, with the airport serving both domestic and international travellers.
The airport is located in Ulwe, Navi Mumbai, in Maharashtra's Raigad district, roughly 34 km from South Mumbai and around 9.5 km from Navi Mumbai's CBD Belapur. It complements Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and helps relieve pressure on the region's existing aviation infrastructure.
Its first phase centres on Terminal 1, a lotus-inspired building designed by Zaha Hadid Architects with an initial capacity of about 20 million passengers per year and a 3,700-metre runway. The terminal includes check-in counters, self-baggage drop units, aerobridges and bus boarding gates.
The airport is connected to the region by road through the Atal Setu, Sion–Panvel Highway, Palm Beach Road and nearby national highways, with taxis, ride-hailing services, shuttle buses and suburban rail links providing onward travel options. Additional metro and rail connections are planned to improve access over time.
