About Mwanza International Airport
Mwanza International Airport is the main airport serving Mwanza and the Lake Zone of northern Tanzania. It sits on the southern shores of Lake Victoria, approximately 10 kilometres from the city centre, and is operated by the Tanzania Airports Authority.
The airport functions as an important regional hub, connecting Mwanza with domestic destinations and nearby Great Lakes countries such as Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is widely regarded as one of Tanzania's busiest regional airports and serves both leisure and business travelers.
Its infrastructure includes a single asphalt runway of about 3,700 metres, which was extended in 2019, along with taxiways, aircraft parking areas and a cargo terminal. A new passenger terminal is being developed to increase capacity, while the current terminal handles daily domestic and regional flights.
