M'Vengue El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba International Airport is the main air gateway to Franceville and the Haut-Ogooué region in southeastern Gabon. It is among Gabon's larger airports and primarily connects the country's southeast with the capital, Libreville.
The airport was inaugurated on 14 August 1972, when an Air Afrique DC-8 became the first jet to land there, marking the twelfth anniversary of Gabon's independence. It is named after former president El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba.
Located about 19 km west of central Franceville, the airport has a single passenger terminal and a 3,080-metre asphalt runway. It also accommodates Gabonese Air Force activity and serves business and regional travel in southeastern Gabon.
Passenger facilities are compact, with a bar-restaurant overlooking the apron, and processing is generally quick. Taxis are available outside the terminal for the journey into Franceville and nearby destinations.
