Musoma Airport (MUZ)

Musoma Airport is the airport serving Musoma and the surrounding Mara Region in northern Tanzania, near the eastern shore of Lake Victoria. It supports domestic air travel and provides a gateway for visitors heading to the city, the Lake Victoria area and destinations such as Serengeti National Park.

The airport's passenger services were suspended in March 2018 because the facility's limited runway and infrastructure could not safely support scheduled services. A major rehabilitation programme began in 2021, replacing the old gravel runway with an asphalt surface and upgrading the terminal and supporting infrastructure. The modernised airport can now handle aircraft carrying up to 80 passengers, compared with the previous capacity of around 42 passengers, and Air Tanzania is expected to resume passenger flights from July 2026.

Located about one kilometre south of the city centre, the airport has a single passenger terminal and a runway orientated 18/36. Its compact layout makes it relatively quick to reach Musoma's hotels and business areas.

Taxis and private transfers connect the airport to the city centre, while road links continue to other parts of Mara Region, the Serengeti and communities around Lake Victoria. For travelers visiting the region, the airport offers a convenient entry point for tourism, fishing and trade across the Lake Victoria basin.
