About Munda International Airport
Munda International Airport serves the town of Munda and the wider Western Province of the Solomon Islands. Originally developed from a wartime airfield on New Georgia island, it was progressively improved and now functions as the country's second international airport.
Between 2021 and 2023 the airport was upgraded with a new international terminal, ground lighting, navigation aids and airfield security improvements. The runway and terminal can accommodate aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737, supporting scheduled international and domestic operations.
The airport sits adjacent to Munda town, about 1 km from the centre, making short road transfers quick and simple. Taxis, private transfers and rental vehicles connect the airport with local hotels, while boat transfers link travellers to island resorts across the Roviana Lagoon and nearby destinations such as Noro and Gizo.
Passengers benefit from modern terminal facilities including waiting areas, lounges and duty-free shopping, together with customs, immigration and biosecurity processing for international arrivals and departures.
