Suavanao Airport (VAO)

Suavanao Airport is a small domestic airport near Rekata Bay on Santa Isabel Island in Isabel Province, Solomon Islands. It primarily connects the island's communities with Honiara and serves as an access point for visitors travelling to the Rekata Bay area.

The airport has a single grass-and-sand runway and a compact terminal building. In 2018, the runway was rehabilitated and the airport reopened to scheduled commercial service, improving reliability for residents and travelers.

Because Suavanao is a remote settlement, onward travel usually relies on boats, motorized canoes, and guesthouse-arranged transfers rather than taxis or public buses. Papatura Island Retreat, for example, is reached by a short boat ride from the airport.

Facilities at the airport are basic, so travelers should confirm flight details and onward arrangements in advance. The airport's small scale makes arrivals and departures straightforward, with most passengers continuing to nearby villages, surf lodges, and island resorts.
