About Moshoeshoe I International Airport
Moshoeshoe I International Airport is Lesotho's only international airport and the principal air gateway to Maseru. It is located at Mazenod, on a high plateau roughly 18 km southeast of the capital, and connects the country to O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
Opened in the mid-1980s to replace the former Mejametalana airfield, the airport is named after Moshoeshoe I, the founder of the Basotho nation. Its compact terminal area handles both domestic and international passengers and is supported by a separate cargo facility, with a paved runway suitable for narrow-body aircraft at an elevation of about 1,630 m.
Travellers can reach Maseru by taxi, shared minibus or pre-arranged private transfer, while rental car counters offer options for onward travel to the highlands, Katse Dam and Sani Pass. Road access follows the A2 between Maseru and Mafeteng, with the airport turnoff close to the terminal.
