Mono Airport (MNY)

Mono Airport is a small domestic airport on Stirling Island in the Treasury Islands, part of the Solomon Islands' Western Province. The airfield dates to the Second World War, when it was developed as a wartime strip in the early 1940s, and today it serves local communities and a small number of visitors to this remote part of the Pacific.

The airport has a single grass-and-coral runway of about 1,000 metres and a very basic terminal, with passenger services operated mainly by Solomon Airlines on regional routes. Flights connect the Treasury Islands with Gizo and onward to Honiara, making the airport an important lifeline for the area.

The airstrip is located on Stirling Island, while many travellers continue by boat across Blanche Harbour to Falamae and other settlements on neighbouring Mono Island. Because there are no regular taxis or buses at the airport, onward transport should be arranged with a local boat operator or host before arrival.

Facilities are minimal, with no shops, restaurants or ATMs on site, so passengers should carry water, cash and essential supplies. Despite its simple infrastructure, Mono Airport provides a practical gateway for reaching the Treasury Islands' communities and surrounding coastal areas.
