About Mocímboa da Praia Airport
Mocímboa da Praia Airport is a small regional airport serving the town of Mocímboa da Praia in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique. Located about 2 km from the town, it is managed by Aeroportos de Moçambique and uses the IATA code MZB and ICAO code FQMP.
The airport has a single 2,000-metre runway and one compact terminal building. It mainly handles domestic and regional flights, along with general aviation and charter traffic supporting the Rovuma Basin gas developments around Palma and the Afungi peninsula.
After being rehabilitated and reopened to international traffic in 2018, the airport was damaged during the Cabo Delgado conflict and later rebuilt, with the restored port and aerodrome inaugurated in 2023. Its location near Mocímboa da Praia and Palma makes it useful for local travel and business-related movement in the region.
Transport from the airport is mostly by road using taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services or pre-arranged vehicles. Passenger facilities remain limited, so travellers should confirm services in advance.
