About Mozambique
Mozambique is a southeastern African destination where a long Indian Ocean coastline, tropical islands and strong cultural traditions meet a growing but still relaxed travel scene. Its mix of Portuguese colonial heritage, Swahili coastal influences and varied landscapes gives the country a distinctive character for both leisure and business visitors.
Maputo, the capital and main gateway, is known for its waterfront, markets, architecture and restaurant scene. Beira and Nampula serve as important regional centres, while Pemba is a hub for the northern coast. Historic Ilha de Moçambique, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reflects centuries of maritime and colonial history.
Beyond the cities, the country is shaped by more than 2,500 kilometres of coastline, offshore archipelagos such as the Bazaruto and Quirimbas islands, savanna reserves and the Zambezi River valley. Gorongosa National Park and Niassa Reserve are known for wildlife, while beaches, reefs, diving and fishing attract visitors to the coast.
Mozambique is also a resource and logistics economy with growing regional relevance, anchored by ports such as Maputo, Beira and Nacala and by natural gas, coal and agricultural exports. Its tourism sector is expanding around beach holidays, diving, safaris and cultural travel, and Maputo regularly hosts regional conferences and business meetings.
The main international gateway is Maputo International Airport, with other airports in Beira, Nampula, Pemba and Vilankulo serving domestic and regional routes. The EN1 highway runs the length of the country, and a rail network links key ports with neighbouring countries, making it possible to travel between airports, cities, hotels, venues, beaches and national parks.
