About Mecheria Airport
Mecheria Airport, also known as Cheikh Bouamama Airport, is a small airport serving Mecheria and Naâma Province in the highlands of western Algeria. It operates as a joint civil and military facility and mainly handles domestic flights within Algeria.
The airport is named after Cheikh Bouamama, an Algerian resistance leader who fought against colonial rule between 1881 and 1908. Its infrastructure includes two bituminous concrete runways, the longer of which measures about 3,600 metres, allowing it to support a range of domestic and military operations.
Located a short distance from the centre of Mecheria and roughly 30 km north of Naâma, the airport is reached by road, with taxis and private transfers covering the short connection to the town. Air Algérie has operated scheduled domestic links serving the area, including a weekly service connecting Naâma.
Passenger facilities are limited, reflecting the airport's regional role, and there are no international customs or border facilities. Travelers should expect basic waiting areas and are advised to arrange onward transport in advance.
