About Montes Claros Airport
Montes Claros Airport is the main airport serving Montes Claros and the northern region of Minas Gerais. Located about 5 km from the city centre, it connects the city with domestic hubs such as Belo Horizonte and São Paulo and supports business and regional travel.
The airport's history dates back to the 1930s, when the Governador Valadares Aerodrome was inaugurated. Infraero took over management in 1980, and in 2003 the airport was renamed Montes Claros Airport – Mário Ribeiro. The passenger terminal was expanded in 2021, and Aena Brasil has managed the airport since November 2023.
The single passenger terminal handles check-in, security, arrivals and baggage claim in one building, with facilities including a snack bar, shops, Wi-Fi, ATM services, parking and car rental counters.
The airport is reached by road from central Montes Claros in about 10–15 minutes, with taxis, private transfers and rental cars available for the short journey into the city and onward travel across the region.
