About Maquehue Airport
Maquehue Airport is a former commercial airport serving Temuco and the La Araucanía Region of southern Chile. For decades it was the region's main air gateway, with its aviation history dating back to the late 1920s and early 1930s.
Located approximately 5 km southwest of central Temuco, in the commune of Padre Las Casas, the airport operated as the principal terminal for the region until July 2014. On that date, scheduled commercial flights transferred to the newly built La Araucanía International Airport, ending 84 years of passenger service at Maquehue.
The site remains active as Base Aérea Maquehue, used by the Chilean Air Force and private or general aviation. Road links connect the area with Temuco, and commercial travelers now reach Temuco, Villarrica, Pucón and other destinations through La Araucanía International Airport.
