About Malda Airport
Malda Airport is a regional airport serving Malda, also known as English Bazar, and the surrounding district in West Bengal. It is being developed under India's regional connectivity programme to restore scheduled flights and improve access to this part of the state.
Located about 3 km from Malda's city centre, the airport historically handled small aircraft services to destinations such as Kolkata and Balurghat, which were withdrawn in 1989. The site covers roughly 140 acres and includes a single runway, with plans to extend it for larger regional aircraft.
The airport lies close to Malda Town railway station and the main road network, with taxis and local transport available for short transfers into Malda and English Bazar. Private transfers and rental cars provide onward travel for visitors to nearby historic sites such as Gour and Farakka.
With its compact single terminal and short distance from the city centre, the airport is intended to make regional travel simpler for residents and visitors. Passenger facilities are being upgraded as scheduled services are restored.
