Makokou Airport is the main airport serving Makokou, the capital of the Ogooué-Ivindo province in northeastern Gabon. Located about 4 km east-northeast of the city centre, the airport provides a vital air link for this forested region, where road travel can be difficult.
Previously known as Epassendje Airport, the facility was closed for several years before undergoing a major renovation programme. It reopened in March 2025 as Emmanuel Issoze Ngondet Airport, with an extended runway, a rehabilitated passenger terminal, improved security and modern amenities brought up to international safety standards.
The airport operates domestic flights from a single terminal building and has one asphalt runway oriented 06/24. It primarily serves regional and domestic connections, helping to open up the province and improve access for residents, businesses and visitors.
From the airport, travellers can continue to Makokou by taxi, private transfer or road. The surrounding area is known for its rainforest landscapes, including Ivindo National Park with its waterfalls and wildlife, making the airport an important gateway for visitors exploring the region.
