About Mahenye Airport
Mahenye Airport (MJW) is a small bush airstrip serving Gonarezhou National Park in southeastern Zimbabwe. It acts mainly as an air gateway for safari travellers heading to Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge and the surrounding wildlife areas. The airstrip has a single runway, designated 15/33, and sits at an elevation of about 283 metres. Rather than a large commercial terminal, it operates as a compact charter and safari flight point, with arrivals and departures handled directly on the apron. Located close to the Save River and Chilo Gorge, the airstrip is roughly 72 km from Chiredzi, the main town in the area. Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge is about 10 minutes away by safari vehicle, and most guests continue to lodges and camps by pre-arranged 4x4 transfer. Facilities are limited, so refreshments, baggage handling and onward transport are generally organised through the lodge or charter operator. The airstrip is best suited to visitors travelling by private charter or organised safari itinerary.
