Maa Mahamaya Airport is the main domestic airport serving Ambikapur, the headquarters of Surguja district in northern Chhattisgarh. The airfield at Darima dates to 1950 and was long used mainly for VIP and small-aircraft movements before being upgraded under India's Regional Connectivity Scheme and reopened for scheduled commercial flights.
The upgraded airport has a single passenger terminal designed to handle about 500,000 passengers a year and a 1,920-metre asphalt runway suitable for 72-seat aircraft. Scheduled services operated by Alliance Air connect Ambikapur with Delhi and Kolkata, improving air access to the northern tribal belt.
