About Lubumbashi International Airport
Lubumbashi International Airport is the main airport serving Lubumbashi and the Haut-Katanga province in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is one of the country's most active airports, connecting the city's copper-mining economy with domestic destinations and regional routes across southern and eastern Africa.
The airport dates back to the colonial era, when it was founded as Elisabethville Airport and also became known as Luano Airport. Construction of the present site began in 1953, and the airport later played a notable role during the Katanga conflict. A new VIP terminal was inaugurated in 2023.
Located about 12 km northeast of central Lubumbashi, the airport has a single passenger terminal handling both domestic and international flights. The city is reached by road, mainly via the N1, with taxis, hotel shuttles, private transfers and rental cars available from the arrivals area.
