Loiyangalani Airport (LOY)

Loiyangalani Airport is a small public airstrip serving the town of Loiyangalani in Marsabit County, northern Kenya. Situated on the eastern shore of Lake Turkana, it mainly supports light aircraft, private flights and charter operations rather than regular scheduled airline services.

The airport sits at about 364 metres above sea level and has a single runway measuring approximately 1,127 metres in length. Charter flights from Nairobi's Wilson Airport typically reach Loiyangalani in around 90 minutes, making the airstrip an important entry point for travellers visiting Lake Turkana and the surrounding desert region.

Loiyangalani is reached from the airstrip by short road transfers into the town centre, where lodges, camps and cultural sites such as the Desert Museum and local El Molo and Turkana communities are located. Journeys beyond the immediate area are generally made by 4x4 vehicle.

With its basic facilities and remote setting, the airport works best for visitors travelling with a pre-arranged operator, lodge transfer or charter flight. It offers a practical gateway to one of Kenya's most isolated and scenic lake regions.
