About Langebaanweg Airport
Langebaanweg Airport, also known as Air Force Base Langebaanweg, is a South African Air Force airfield serving the Cape West Coast region of the Western Cape. It is best known as the home of the SAAF Central Flying School, where military pilots complete flying training on PC-7 Mk II aircraft.
Planning for the base began in 1942 and the first aircraft arrived in February 1946. The Central Flying School moved to Langebaanweg from Dunnottar in December 1992, and the site was renamed from CFS Langebaanweg to Air Force Base Langebaanweg in 2001.
Located roughly 120 km north of Cape Town, the base lies close to Langebaan, Saldanha Bay and the West Coast National Park. It is reached by road via the R27 and R45, with onward connections by car, taxi or pre-booked private transfer.
The airfield operates several asphalt runways and supports visiting squadrons for exercises, but it does not offer scheduled commercial passenger services. Its role as a training and military facility makes it an important aviation site on the West Coast.
