About La Araucanía International Airport
La Araucanía International Airport is the main air gateway for Temuco and Chile's Araucanía Region in southern Chile. Opened in July 2014, it replaced the former Maquehue airfield and serves as a key access point for the region.
Located about 20 kilometres south of central Temuco, in the commune of Freire, the airport offers connections primarily to Santiago and other Chilean cities for both business and leisure travellers. It also provides convenient access to popular lake and volcano destinations such as Pucón and Villarrica.
The airport operates a single modern passenger terminal of approximately 5,000 square metres with three boarding bridges and an aircraft apron able to accommodate several aircraft. Its compact layout places check-in, security, arrivals and passenger services in one building.
Road links via Route 5 connect the airport to Temuco, while taxis, scheduled buses, private transfers, chauffeur services and rental cars are available for onward travel. The drive to the city centre typically takes around 25 to 30 minutes depending on traffic.
