About Kushinagar International Airport
Kushinagar International Airport serves the town of Kushinagar and the wider eastern Uttar Pradesh region. Opened on 20 October 2021, it was developed to improve access to one of Buddhism's most important pilgrimage destinations, where the Buddha is believed to have attained Mahaparinirvana.
Located about 4 km from Kushinagar town and roughly 53 km east of Gorakhpur, the airport connects the area to domestic and international travel and supports the Buddhist circuit that includes Lumbini, Sravasti, Sarnath, Bodh Gaya and Rajgir.
The airport has a single 3,200-metre runway and one terminal building of about 3,600 square metres designed to handle around 300 peak-hour passengers. Its apron provides stands for narrow-body aircraft.
Road links connect the airport to Kushinagar, Gorakhpur and nearby towns, with taxis, private transfers and local transport available for onward journeys. The airport provides a compact, convenient arrival point for pilgrims and leisure travellers visiting the region.
