Kirawira B Aerodrome (GTZ)

Kirawira B Aerodrome (GTZ) is a small safari airstrip located in the western corridor of Serengeti National Park, close to the Grumeti River and the Grumeti Game Reserve. It serves as one of the limited air access points into this part of the park and is used mainly by private charter flights and scheduled light aircraft services linking the Serengeti with Arusha, Dar es Salaam and other safari destinations in Tanzania.

Because of its remote location, the airstrip plays an important role for travelers visiting safari camps and lodges in the western Serengeti. Arriving passengers are typically met by lodge guides or pre-arranged vehicles and continue by road to nearby properties, including the Kirawira Serena Camp area, and to game-viewing routes along the Grumeti River.

Road access to the airstrip is limited but possible. It is roughly three hours' drive from Mwanza and about half an hour from the Ndabaka Gate, while the journey from Arusha takes considerably longer. Most visitors therefore arrive by air rather than overland.

The airstrip has a small terminal building with basic seating and limited amenities, and operations focus on light aircraft and safari charters rather than large commercial flights. This makes it a practical entry point for travelers prioritizing quick access to the western Serengeti and Grumeti region.
