About King Hussein Air College

King Hussein Air College (OMF), also known as Mafraq Air Base, is a Royal Jordanian Air Force airfield about 3 km northeast of Mafraq in northern Jordan. The site has been used for aviation since the 1920s, making it the oldest air base in the country, and it now serves as the Royal Jordanian Air Force's main flight training centre.

The airfield was expanded with new buildings and a concrete runway in 1951, handed over to the Jordanian government in May 1957 and renamed King Hussein Air Base in June 1959. After damage during the Six-Day War in 1967, it was repaired and dedicated as a full training facility; full local pilot training began in 1974, the first cadets graduated in 1975, and in 1978 the base was named King Hussein Air College. The first class of female cadets graduated in 2020.

Today the college houses the Flying School, Staff School, Flying Instructor School, a technical school and training squadrons operating fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters from a single 3,000-metre asphalt runway.

Located around 60 km northeast of Amman and close to the Syrian border, the airfield is reached by road from Mafraq. Travellers continuing to Amman, Jerash, Irbid and the wider north of Jordan typically use taxis, private transfers, rental cars or intercity road connections.
