Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)

Kilimanjaro International Airport is the main international airport serving northern Tanzania, connecting travelers to Arusha, Moshi, Mount Kilimanjaro and many of the country's best-known safari areas. Inaugurated in December 1971, it functions as an important arrival point for climbers, safari visitors and business travelers heading into the Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions.

The airport is located in Hai District, Kilimanjaro Region, between the towns of Moshi and Arusha. It operates through a single passenger terminal that handles international and domestic flights, with check-in, immigration, baggage claim and arrivals facilities within a compact and easy-to-navigate building.

Arusha is roughly 50 km from the airport and Moshi is around 40 km away, with typical road journeys taking about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. There is no direct public bus or rail service to the terminal, so most travelers continue by taxi, pre-arranged transfer, hotel shuttle or rental car, often organized through safari companies.

The airport provides practical passenger facilities including restaurants, cafés, shops, lounges, Wi-Fi, currency exchange, ATMs and accessibility services. As a key regional hub, it supports domestic connections and international services that bring visitors into Tanzania's northern circuit.
