Kenneth Kaunda International Airport is Zambia's main international airport and the primary gateway to Lusaka, the capital. Opened in 1967 as Lusaka International Airport and renamed in 2011 in honour of the country's first president, it serves as the hub for domestic, regional and international air travel.
Located approximately 27 km northeast of central Lusaka, the airport connects the capital with destinations across Africa and other international markets. It operates two passenger terminals: Terminal 1 for domestic flights and Terminal 2, opened in 2021, for international departures and arrivals.
Passengers can reach the city centre by taxi, private transfer, shuttle and rental car, with normal road journeys typically taking around 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. The airport also provides access to other parts of Zambia, including the Copperbelt and Livingstone near Victoria Falls.
