About Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport
Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport is the main domestic airport serving Durgapur, Asansol and the surrounding industrial belt of western West Bengal. Inaugurated in 2013 and opened for scheduled flights in 2015, it forms part of India's first private-sector aerotropolis developed by Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited.
Located at Durgapur-Andal in Paschim Bardhaman district, the airport sits about 15 km from Durgapur City Centre and roughly 25 km from Asansol. Its catchment extends to towns such as Bardhaman, Bankura, Bishnupur, Purulia, Bolpur-Shantiniketan and parts of neighbouring Jharkhand.
The airport has a single integrated terminal of about 5,750 square metres with capacity for around one million passengers a year, expandable to 2.5 million. Six check-in counters, two baggage belts and a 2,800-metre runway support domestic operations, primarily by IndiGo to major Indian cities.
