About Kanpur Airport
Kanpur Airport is a domestic airport and Indian Air Force base serving Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. It operates as a civil enclave within the Chakeri Air Force Station and connects the city with major destinations across India.
Located at Chakeri, about 17 km from central Kanpur, the airport mainly handles domestic passenger traffic. A new civil terminal was inaugurated in May 2023, replacing the older facility with a larger terminal building that can handle around 400 passengers during peak hours.
The new terminal includes check-in counters, baggage handling areas and a retail and dining zone, with parking space for cars and buses on the city side. The terminal design reflects local culture and heritage, including temple-inspired architecture and themes linked to Kanpur's textile and leather industries.
The airport is reached by taxi, app-based cab services and private road transfers, with travel to the city centre usually taking around 30 to 55 minutes depending on traffic. It serves as a practical gateway for business and leisure travelers visiting Kanpur and nearby parts of Uttar Pradesh.
