About Kailashahar Airport
Kailashahar Airport is a small regional airport serving Kailashahar in the Unakoti district of Tripura. It was shut down in the mid-1990s, and authorities have since pursued plans to revive the facility and restore regional air links under domestic connectivity programmes.
Located about 3 km from the Kailashahar town centre, the airport has a single runway of roughly 1,005 metres and one compact domestic terminal building. Proposed revival work includes extending the runway to accommodate a wider range of regional aircraft.
Road transport connects the site with Kailashahar town, while the nearest operational airports are Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala and Silchar Airport. Travellers in the region generally continue by taxi, private transfer or local road transport.
Although scheduled passenger flights are not currently operating, Kailashahar Airport remains a key regional project for Tripura, with plans aimed at restoring air connectivity between the Unakoti district and other parts of India.
