Kahama Airstrip (KBH)

Kahama Airstrip is a small airport serving Kahama town and the Shinyanga Region of northwestern Tanzania. Located in the Mwanza lake zone, it primarily handles small aircraft and has long supported charter operations, medical flights and travel linked to the area's mining activity, particularly the nearby Buzwagi Gold Mine. The airport is managed by the Tanzania Airports Authority.

In January 2024, a new passenger terminal was handed over to the Tanzania Airports Authority following an eight-month partnership with Barrick Gold Corporation. The modern building replaced a much smaller facility, increasing capacity from around 25 passengers to more than 200 at a time, and was designed to support the introduction of scheduled airline service to and from Kahama.

The airport now hosts scheduled domestic flights operated by airlines such as Precision Air and Auric Air, with connections to Dar es Salaam and Mwanza, alongside continuing charter traffic. Its single runway measures about 1,428 metres and is suited to smaller aircraft operations.

Kahama Airstrip lies approximately 10 km from Kahama town centre, with the journey normally taking around 15 to 20 minutes by road. Private transfers, taxis and rental cars provide onward travel into town and across the surrounding region, making the airport a practical gateway for business, mining-related and regional travel.
