About Jorge Isaacs Airport
Jorge Isaacs Airport is a small regional airport serving Maicao and the La Guajira Department in northern Colombia. Also known as La Mina Airport, it is located in the municipality of Albania and functions mainly as a point of access for charter and private flights rather than regular scheduled services.
The airport lies approximately 31 kilometres southwest of Maicao and around 57 kilometres from Riohacha, the departmental capital. It provides an air link for the surrounding region and is associated with access to the nearby El Cerrejón mining area.
Jorge Isaacs Airport has a single passenger terminal, and charter connections have operated to destinations such as Barranquilla. Passenger facilities are limited, so travelers should plan onward transport and other services in advance.
The airport is reached mainly by road, with taxis available near the terminal entrance for journeys to Maicao and other nearby towns. There is currently no regular public transport service directly to the airport, making pre-arranged transfers or taxis the most practical options.
