About Jomo Kenyatta International Airport

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is the main international airport serving Nairobi and the wider East Africa region. It opened in 1958 as Embakasi Airport and was renamed in honour of Kenya's first president, Jomo Kenyatta; the current terminal building opened in 1978.

Located in Embakasi, about 15 km southeast of Nairobi's central business district, the airport serves domestic and international routes and is the main hub for Kenya Airways. Passenger services are spread across Terminal 1 units 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D and 1E, plus a separate Terminal 2 for low-cost and some regional carriers.

The airport is reached mainly by road from central Nairobi, with connections via taxis, ride-hailing, public buses, private transfers, chauffeur services and car rental. This makes it convenient to continue to Nairobi's business districts, hotels, and destinations across Kenya.

Passengers have access to restaurants, cafés, shops, duty-free stores, lounges, free Wi-Fi, charging points, currency exchange and parking, making NBO an important hub for both business and leisure travel in East Africa.
