About Jolo Airport
Jolo Airport is the only airport serving Jolo and the island province of Sulu in the southern Philippines. It connects the provincial capital to domestic destinations and functions as the main air gateway for government, humanitarian, business and local travel in the Sulu archipelago.
The airport dates to the 1940s, when it was built during World War II as a staging point for American fighter aircraft. It was later expanded in 1965, and the runway has since been lengthened to about 1,845 metres. A single passenger terminal building handles arrivals and departures, with additional terminal upgrades under development.
Located roughly 2 kilometres north of Jolo town centre, the airport is reachable by tricycle, jeepney, taxi or private transfer. It operates under the Bangsamoro Airport Authority following its transition from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.
As a small domestic airport, Jolo Airport offers a compact and straightforward travel experience, with basic passenger services and onward transport links to Jolo town and nearby communities.
