The airfield's history reaches back to the 1930s, and it has long supported regional aviation for a city that functions as a commercial and service hub for nearby municipalities.
Located within the urban area of Iguatu, only about 1 to 2 km northeast of the city centre, the airport occupies a compact site in the Planalto district. It operates a single asphalt runway and a small passenger terminal that mainly handles general aviation and regional flights rather than scheduled commercial services.
Road access connects the airport to local streets and Ceará's state and federal highway network, including routes toward Fortaleza, roughly 430 km to the north. From the terminal, the city centre, hotels and nearby towns can be reached quickly by taxi, private transfer or car.
