Abdullahi Yusuf International Airport is the main airport serving Galkayo, the capital of the north-central Mudug region of Somalia, and an important connection point for the surrounding Puntland and Galmudug areas. It handles domestic passenger flights as well as regional, charter and humanitarian operations.
The airport was formerly known as Galkayo Airport and was officially renamed on 25 March 2012 in memory of Colonel Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed, the former President of Somalia, who was born in Galkayo. It is administered by the Puntland government and operates as a shared gateway between the divided city's two administrative zones.
Located about 2 km from central Galkayo at an elevation of roughly 297 metres, the airport has two parallel runways: a 3,006-metre asphalt runway and a parallel unpaved runway. A single passenger terminal handles check-in, security, arrivals and basic passenger services.
Scheduled flights link Galkayo with Mogadishu and Garowe, and the airport also supports United Nations humanitarian flights. Ground transport into the city is generally arranged by taxi, private transfer or rental car, reflecting the airport's modest size and the limited public transport options in the region.
